Yoga, Coffee, and Community: Why I Host Donation-Based Yoga at Backstage Coffee Every Sunday

Each Sunday morning, I roll out my mat in the backyard of Backstage Coffee—and I invite you to do the same. It’s not just a yoga class. It’s a 45-minute all-levels flow designed to support your body where it often needs it most: your low back and hips. We move, stretch, breathe, and reconnect—with ourselves and each other. And we do it together, under the Carolina sun, with the smell of coffee in the air.

But more than that, this class is my way of giving back.

Why Donation-Based?

I created this class because I was tired of seeing yoga become a luxury. Studio drop-ins can cost upwards of $20—and while I believe in the value of yoga, I also believe it should be accessible. Honestly, I was feeling guilty. I know how transformative yoga can be, and I hated the idea that someone might miss out because of the price tag.

So I made this class pay-what-you-can. No pressure. No expectations. Just a space to move, breathe, and feel good in your body.

Why Community Yoga Matters

Community yoga offers something studios can’t always replicate: connection. When we gather outside at a local spot like Backstage Coffee, we strip away the formalities. We’re not just students and teachers—we’re neighbors. Friends. People showing up just as we are.

Community classes bring movement and mindfulness to people who may not have access otherwise. They create space for real connection, reduce isolation, and offer a sense of belonging in a world that can feel increasingly disconnected. And when we feel better in our bodies, we show up better in our lives.

If you love the idea of yoga that’s welcoming, inclusive, and rooted in community—show up. That’s the best way to keep offerings like this going. Come to class. Invite a friend. Donate if you’re able. Support it with your presence, your energy, your voice. Every time you roll out your mat, you’re helping build something bigger than a yoga class. You’re helping shape a more accessible, more connected wellness space right here in Pitt County.

What to Expect

The flow is gentle and intentional—perfect for beginners, yet still nourishing for experienced yogis. I design the sequence to target common pain points like the low back and hips (hello, desk workers and busy parents!). Expect mindful movement, breath awareness, and a moment of stillness to reset before the week begins.

After class, stick around. Grab a coffee. Meet someone new. Or just sit quietly in the sunshine. You’re welcome here.
